MR. CHARLES BEARD, has taught
in the Miami Public Schools since 1986. First as Will
Rogers Middle School Band Director and then Miami High
School Band Director. Prior to this, Mr. Beard taught in
Ann Arbor, Michigan. He has also maintained a private
woodwind studio in which he has had the privilege of
teaching some of the top all state high school students in
Oklahoma, Michigan, Kansas and Oklahoma. Mr. Beard earned a
Bachelor of Music Performance Degree in clarinet from
Pittsburg State University and a Masters Degree in Woodwind
Performance from the University of Michigan. He was
Principal Clarinet in the Jackson Symphony Orchestra and
played with the Ann Arbor Chamber Orchestra. He has
presented clinics and was a member of the University of
Arkansas Summer Band Camp faculty. Along with his current
public school teaching position he also as an adjunct
faculty member teaching clarinet and saxophone at Pittsburg
State University.
MRS. TOYE HARRIS; Head WRMS
Band Director and Assistant MHS Band Director. Graduated
from Owasso High School in 1990, and went on the graduate
for Oklahoma Baptist University with a Bachelor of Music
Education Degree. Began her teaching career in Commerce, OK
in Aug. of 1995. In August of 1997, came to Miami Public
Schools. While in Miami, Harris furthered her education and
graduated from Pittsburg State University with a Masters in
Music in 2004. In 2007 earned the distinction of National
Board Certified Teacher.
In her tenure at Miami Public Schools, the middle school
bands have been very successful; earning 7 Outstanding
Achievement Awards which is the highest award from the
Oklahoma Secondary Schools Activity Association. And in
January of 2009, the WRMS Symphonic Band will be a featured
honor group at the Oklahoma Music Educators Convention.
Mrs. Harris has participated as a clinician and adjudicator
in Oklahoma, Kansas and Southwest Missouri. She remains
active as french horn player when allowed the opportunity.
She is a member of the Northest Band Directors Association,
Oklahoma Music Educators Convention, Oklahoma Adjudicators
Association and Phi Beta Mu.
